A nerve conduction velocity test is an electrical test that detects nerve injury in conditions such as: peripheral neuropathy, mononeuritis multiplex, and; compression injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome and compression neuropathy. A nerve conduction velocity test is often done at the same time as an electromyogram (EMG).

The carpal tunnel is formed by the multiple bones in the wrist and the transverse carpal ligament that forms the roof of the carpal tunnel. The median nerve and
